Taper trouble

I did not realize how difficult the taper weeks would be! While I am not obsessed with the desire to throw in more miles, I feel lethargic, my legs feel like lead and the confidence that I built up during my heavy mileage weeks is slowly disappearing. Today's 3-miler, run in 80 degree heat made me feel totally rusty and unprepared. I was out of rhythm, had to put in more effort than I usually do and could not wait to stop. But most of my discomfort was probably caused by the heat, so, I am trying not to panic.

I read articles on tapering to help lift my spirits, and am comforted to learn that other runners go through a similar psychological let-down at this point in marathon training.
