Jiminy Peak

Every time I declare that my week has been hectic, the next week turns out to be crazier. But I WILL catch up with your blogs...I promise!

This week has been crazy good. Long hours at work...though I'm not complaining. The important thing is...I am working!

On Wednesday, my aunt, uncle, cousin and her family (including her precious 9-month old) came over for dinner. I cooked...and as I was trying to accomplish working and cooking at the same time, we ended up eating overcooked rice and burnt chicken. My guests were complimentary all the same, and I made a mental note to self to avoid multitasking when cooking, especially when guests were expected. We had a lot to catch up on and our guests left after midnight.

After a few hours of sleep, I plodded through work on Thursday. But excitement was in the air. That night, DH, Pearl and I drove to the Berkshires to meet up with Sharon, Richard and family for a weekend of skiing. Richard owns a timeshare and this year, he had booked 2 units at the Silverleaf Resort in South Lee, MA. We reached a little past midnight. The place was beyond comfortable; and had everything we would need. Our eyes brightened when we saw the jacuzzi in our room. We could really use that after a day of skiing.
On Friday morning, we groaned when the wake up call came. The bed was so comfy, we wanted to turn over and fall asleep. We piled into Richard's car and headed to Jiminy peak, close to half hour away from the resort. The boys, Raynard, 4 and Runako, 6 were bursting with energy and very entertaining.

Jiminy Peak was a much larger mountain than I am used to, with more than 40 trails...I learned to ski on the molehills in the Poconos. The longest run was the Left Bank, about 2 miles long. Richard, the expert, split his time with all of us, handing out useful tips. We had a day of solid fun, despite a number of falls and my freezing fingers. (I am convinced my fingers have no blood circulation!). It was really amusing to see little Raynard trying to make sense of the trail map...he was completely absorbed by it.

By the end of the day, DH was in a lot of pain. He had fallen several times, once on his head and was too tired to even enjoy a luxurious soak in the tub. We decided to spend the next day at the resort's well-equipped rec. center.

After checking out on Saturday, we had a fun time at the rec. center, where the adults had way more fun than the kids, then drove home. Our romantic Valentine's Day dinner was Chinese food, delivered at our door (we were too sore to move) shared with DH's family, who dropped in for a visit.

I had planned on 4 days of running, but could only manage 3, apart from a day of core work. A day of skiing should count as 2 cross-training workouts, no?

Tuesday: 5 miles
Wednesday: 3 miles
Sunday: 8 miles

After today's 8 miler, DH joined me as I spent a well-deserved 1/2-hour soaking in the jacuzzi at the gym.

All my runs were slow and easy. My body is still adjusting to the increasing mileage after the injury, and as far as I am concerned, it can take all the time it needs. I just cannot stop gushing at how great it feels to be back running!!!

I went skiing yesterday and it was definitely 2 cross training workouts, at least! Glad you are getting your runs in and that they have been going well.
