Nyack Beach State Park

What a beautiful weekend!

We had planned a short hike in Buttermilk Falls County Park, NY with friends. The 'scenic' Buttermilk Falls turned out to be a mere trickle, and the 1.2 mile hike took less than an hour. Hunting for more action, we drove to Hook Mountain, but ended up at Nyack Beach State Park instead. Everybody fell in love with the scenery, so we took the pathway through the park, with the Hudson River on one side...
and the Palisades Sill on the other.
We came to a fork and had to pick between the Haverstraw Trail...
...and the slightly-ascending path that led to Rockland Lake.

Rockland Lake it was.
On the way back, we came across Woody Woodpecker, going at a tree bark, full throttle.
Here's his handiwork.

Can't blame our poor avian friend for this one.

Any of you nature enthusiasts know what this is?

We had dinner with our friends and got a little tipsy on dessert - liquor-filled chocolate candy.
Apart from a 7 mile run Friday evening that left my right foot complaining slightly, there was no running this weekend. I am looking forward to the "Train" Run on Saturday and hope my feet behave themselves.
Have a great week, everyone!

Ooh, that looks like a pretty hike! Is the last picture a moth's nest?

Ever been to stony brook park? They have a some really nice waterfalls. I went last summer and it was beautiful and quite a hike!

J, thanks for the tip...I have to check it out.

Mica, I think it's a spider web, but I'm not entirely sure.

Joy, that candy is SO addicting! Groan!

I think the last pic is the work of gypsy moth caterpillars, or tent caterpillars. They are awful -- they destroy trees. Yuck.

Looks like you had a great hike! I always enjoy your photos.

Ah! The mystery is solved. Thanks, Felice.
